Do you hold the door open for a second or two for the person behind you? I've noticed many people in Chicago do not do this. I used to live in Montana. People over there always hold the doors. I personally hold doors open for other people all the time. Occasionally people don't say thank you, but I don't let it bother me. I do it because it makes me feel good. Phunthila R.

In my opinion the bigger city, the more independent people. I have lived in Wisconsin and Bellingham which are countryside-ish. Over there people are usually nice and they would hold doors, but here in Chicago its a bit rare. I don't want to lie that I always do hold doors, but I usually do.

Chicago is a big city. Most of the time people are busy and they don't pay to much attention to people around them, but still sometimes they do nice gestures . Keeping the door for the next person is one of them.In suburbs, people do that all the time.
